SAKE
is not for drinking alone. In Japan, SAKE is shared with friends to build
a happy mood. To gain an appreciation for Japanese aesthetics, try adding
some Japanese accents to the drinking environment. Japanese ideals of beauty
include simplicity of color and form. For instance, a white paper lantern
or lamp shade, readily available outside Japan, will add a nice touch.
A folding paper fan can also add a Japanese accent. Fans are used not only
to provide a cool breeze, but also in various roles in tea ceremonies and
KABUKI and dance performances. Fans are available in myriad patterns and
colors, some bearing written Japanese characters. You could hang a fan on
a pillar or wall, or place it on a table as a decorative element to create
an Oriental mood.
